2021An ancestral altar installation assembled preceding the Mother of My Mothers performance, with all of the ancestral essentials, traditional foods and offerings, arranging each element as a tactile invitation for remediation and soothing amid the intense Martial energy of the ritual.

Offerings were curated from family stock and local sources: freshly baked baklava, buttery couscous cooked on her mother’s stove, dates from Madīna dusted with rosemary from her mother’s herb garden, and frankincense‑amber incense brought from Egypt and Morocco. These were presented in heirloom silver dishes, crystal glassware and jewelry inherited from her mother’s household, alongside a family Qur’an, braided hair and other personal mementos.
The altar functions as a material conduit for the performance’s alchemical intent—inviting the ancestors to partake, to be appeased, and to lend their presence to the work. For a deeper look at the Mother of My Mothers project, see the dedicated page. ︎︎︎
